Let the resolutions for the new year begin! Some write them down and swear by them. These are the people who swarm into the rec center on January 3 so that those who work out all year long can't get on a treadmill unless they cheat and start changing before the work day clock hits 5:00 and then sprint downstairs, ID card waving, ready to be swiped. Some people make them knowing they won't stick to them and until 2012, that has definitely been my style. One of my new year resolutions this year is to be a better resolutioner! Here's what is running my life starting today: The 17 Day Diet by Dr. Mike Moreno.
Losing weight isn't my reason for doing this. I kind of like junk in my trunk and my boobies are already smaller than a middle school girl's so the fact that boobie fat is the first to go is very depressing. I'm doing this for the cleanse part of the deal. 2012 is all about being CLEAN! Specifically my house, car, desk at work and inside of my body (I'm absolutely going to continue to not wash my hair). My life will be clean, organized and free of shit. Apparently one thing that won't be clean is my mouth ;)
So here's the deal - there are 3 cycles of 17 days each. The first 17 days is a big fat cleanse (literally!). The menu consists of as many vegetables as you want, as much chicken, fish and turkey you want, 2 fruit servings before 2 p.m., 2 servings of probiotics per day (yogurt, Kefir, Good Belly juice), unlimited egg whites (I think) and up to two eggs per day. Because my bladder is the size of a pinhead, the hardest part for me is drinking the tons of water, hot lemon water when you wake up and three cups of green tea each day. Tomorrow I'm going to keep a tally of how many trips to the bathroom I take during the work day!
Here's my menu today
Wake up: hot lemon water
Breakfast: An egg white omelet with green peppers, mushrooms, onions and fat free feta made by my wonderful chef husband
Mid-morning snack: Yogurt and a baggie of grapes
Lunch: Some peach Kefir (delicious!), an apple, my first cup of green tea, and an awesome grilled chicken salad with lettuce, spinach, carrots, onions, cucumber and apple cider vinaigrette.
Afternoon snack: a baggie of carrots and my second green tea
Dinner: a ground turkey patty with something awesome on top (my chef husband hasn't decided yet), steamed broccoli and carrots and the last green tea
Notes: I can barely eat everything that I'm supposed to and that's how I know that THIS is the non-diet diet for me! My life revolves around food right now and that's how I like it!
The one thing I forgot to do is weigh myself today and that's probably because like I said, losing weight isn't a goal on this non-diet diet. I want to weigh in anyway, just to find out if the published acclamations of Dr. Mike are for real. I'm going to weigh myself tonight and then again on the last day. I'll let you know the difference!
If you're a person who keeps resolutions, I wish you the strength to keep it up. For those of you who were like me until this year, you're probably awesome without changing anything, but give it a shot one of these years if you find something you're passionate about. You might surprise yourself!
What is kefir?
ReplyDeleteKefir is a dairy probiotic drink that boosts the immune system and balances digestive health. That's what the bottle says..ha! It's not as thick as yogurt, but a little thicker than milk..like a smoothie drink. Makes ya feel good!!
ReplyDeleteWell good for you, seester!
ReplyDeleteMy resolution is no more cigs... And I'm on day 4, thanks to my wonderful, HSA-spending boyfriend and fruity nicorette!
Enjoy your (new) good belly!!
PS - Paul's totally gonna cheat at Pine Club!
That'd be IMPOSSIBLE!
YAY!!! Welcome to the other club, non-smoker! This gives him major points in my book ;) They say it takes 17 days to break a habit..ha! Let's celebrate on day 18!
